Chamber Committees
Special purpose committees are the heartbeat o
f the Eureka Chamber of Commerce. From legislative advocacy to special events, this is where Chamber members get involved and make a difference in the community. Please review the information and let us know if you are interested in working with your fellow Chamber members to improve local business conditions.

Business & Education - This Committee evaluates education and training issues of interest to the business community. It interacts with Humboldt State University, College of the Redwoods, County and City Schools as well as vocational training facilities and the Workforce Investment Board. Recommends action and positions to Chamber Board of Directors. Examples of recent involvement include Business over Breakfast seminar series, Basic skills Certification program and Youth Entrepreneur Conference. Meets on the first Thursday of each month at 4:00 P.M. at the Chamber.

Business & Industry - The Business & Industry Committee reviews, evaluates and recommends action on issues and concerns of interest to Chamber members. Its members work with local governments and agencies to improve business conditions with local regulatory issues. Examples of recent involvement include providing input on County General Plan update and Headwaters Fund, working to resolve fiber optic communications impasse, local gasoline prices, City of Eureka Foreign Trade Zone designation, improved trade opportunities, Parking within city limits, traffic improvements, airport service expansion and Water diversion. Meets on the second Monday of each month at 3:00 P.M. at the Chamber.
Government Affairs - This group works to develop and maintain the Chamber Regional Legislative Agenda which was designed to promote economic development through legislative advocacy. Reviews and evaluates legislation which would impact members of the business community. Government Affairs works with Chamber lobbyist, Mark Pawlicki to ascertain the status of pending legislation and identify key contacts for communication of Chamber positions on various bills. The Committee coordinates public/member forums for candidates in local elections. Recent involvements include recommending positions on Workers Compensation benefit increases, extended family medical leave benefits, health care costs and availability, the restoration of the north coast railroad, the Buckhorn Summit bypass proposal and the SBC/pacbell - Caltrans fiber optic dispute. Meets on the second Mondayof each month at 3:00 P.M. at the Chamber.

Special Events - Provides direction and support to Chamber sponsored special events such as the Rhododendron Parade and Festival and associated events, Chamber Youth Ambassadors, Fourth of July fireworks display, Annual Chamber Membership Dinner and Coastal Commission Dinner. Committees meet as scheduled by the Chairs.

Tourism - The Chamber Tourism Committee provides direction and support to Chamber programs involving visitor attraction and retention. Oversees the operation of the Chamber Visitor Center, Website and tourist related publications such as the Visitor's Guide as well as advertising in related publications. Recent involvement includes working with State Parks to improve communication and cross-promotional opportunities, organizing and presenting hospitality workshops for hotel and restaurant employees who deal with the visiting public. The group works closely with the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Eureka Main Street and other organizations to maximize the impact of tourism marketing. The Committee meets as scheduled by the Chair.
